Stairway to Heaven

This was the last of three pieces required for my sugar showpiece course. It was a design of my own that had to include pulled, cast, and blown sugar, as well as at least one ribbon.
It was a really interesting project for me. The pillars were something I had only ever seen on videos and only myself and another student attempted them. As well, early in the last day, my piece shattered as I was assembling it. Both the base, the platforms, the sun, and the ribbon I had made were all lost. All I could do was sweep up the shards and go back to work with the spare pieces I had. Unfortunately this resulted in an alteration in the final piece. The base I had originally poured was much more colourful with blues playing into the green. The platforms were better shaped and the pearl orbs by the moon fit into their holds perfectly where as these ones sit on top. The sun was more radiant with better pulled sun beams. If you look closely you can seen the sugar that is holding the sun to the platform. This was really sloppy.
It was a challenging project, but I'm glad I did it. I will definately continue to build on the skills I learned in this course.
